A Statement by Dr. John Bruchalski on being named President of Divine Mercy Care

Dear Friends:

A prolonged illness in late 2021 gave me time for reflection about the next chapter of my medical career and my life. Listening to my patients with my deepest heart, Carolyn and I founded Tepeyac OB/GYN more than 28 years ago. I am writing to you now to share with you that it is time for me to take a break from practicing medicine on a day to day basis.

Beginning this month, I will now serve as President of Divine Mercy Care, the organization I helped to create in 2000. Divine Mercy Care’s mission, as you know, is twofold: to provide funds for charitable care at Tepeyac OB/GYN, and to be a teacher, a resource and a beacon for doctors, medical professionals and patients to learn about life-affirming medicine. Your friendship and seeing many of you as patients these years has transformed my heart. I have a strong calling now to spend my time fund- and friend-raising to breathe and live both aspects of this mission.

Life-affirming medicine and medicine as mercy are the answers to the confusion and conflict we see today regarding abortion. So it is providential that, on the eve of my beginning this new chapter, the news broke that Roe v. Wade had been overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. I immediately thought about the part you all, as supporters of Tepeyac OB/GYN and Divine Mercy Care, played in helping to make this new era a reality. We got to this place together, each of us in the pro-life movement, by doing our parts to build a culture of life, to tell the truth about abortion, to provide trustworthy medical care and advice, and to encourage and provide support to women facing difficult decisions. Thank you for making DMC and Tepeyac OB/GYN medicine for the pro-life movement. Thank you for your witness to life.

In a post-Roe medical environment, practices like the one we built together through grace and sweat and tears will be more vital than ever. Providing women access to abortion-pill reversal, quality and compassionate medicine, perinatal hospice and fertility awareness is foundational to the practice of life-affirming medicine. Inspiring and helping others across the country embrace life-affirming medicine must be front and center in our work at Divine Mercy Care at this time. I know that we have the medical model of life affirming mercy the world desperately needs.

In my new role of inspiring and encouraging and sharing collected experiences, I will be begging for alms to support those patients who will need us now, more than ever, at Tepeyac OB/GYN. Stepping out of the exam room and into the role of President of Divine Mercy Care will also give me space to speak publicly, counsel privately, and communicate far and wide to my fellow medical professionals about the truth of merciful, life-affirming medicine.

I am also excited to announce that my conversion story, TWO PATIENTS, will be published this Fall by Ignatius Press. Stay tuned for more information about the book release! I am looking forward to the opportunity this book will give me to evangelize our model of providing excellence in medicine with the healing presence of our Jesus, the Divine Physician.

I would appreciate your continued support as I embark on this new journey. I would appreciate your prayers. We have so much to be grateful and hopeful for at this time. Thank you for all you have done and be assured that the financial support you provide to Divine Mercy Care will continue to help change hearts.

Gratefully, from Under His Mercy, and Her Mantle,

Dr. John T. Bruchalski
